Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium posts that look like screws that are placed in the bone.  After the bone heals around the implant it can be used to replace missing teeth or support appliances such as a snap-in or screwed-on denture.  Implants can be a great option as they don’t require you to remove any tooth structure on adjacent teeth and have the best longevity of any restoration in dentistry. (After all, titanium can’t get cavities).  However, it is important that you have enough good-quality bone in the area to support the implant.  Bone grafting with cadaver bone is often possible if there is not enough bone present, but not every site is a good candidate for an implant. Your dentist can do a consult with x-rays to determine your best option.
